2023 marks the 70th anniversary of one of Rolex’s original sports watches, the Explorer. Named in celebration of the intrepid adventurers that climbed Everest, it is a firm favourite with fans of Rolex sports watches and has been in the catalogue uninterrupted for the past seven decades.

We are really delighted to be offering this very special Explorer reference 1016 from 1967 with incredible gilt dial.

This is truly one of the best gilt-Explorers that we have seen the last years !
The dial is stunning and glossy with all the lume intact.
The case is in really nice condition too, with a smooth bezel that has good edges. Accompanying the watch are the original punched big chronometer timing papers, which is a lovely addition to this special vintage Rolex.

The watch comes with a solid-link Oyster bracelet, reference 78360, fitted with 580 endlinks with a clasp stamped ‘VF’. The watch has been fully checked and regulated by our watchmaker.
